Abi was very cranky today. Â She just wanted to nurse. Â Mommy & Daddy took Abi to Whole Foods, where she got a chance to say hello to many different people. Â She was very happy there, and also when she got home. Â So, it appears that Abi is just like Mommy in the sense that she just needs to get out once in a while, and preferably at least once a day.

She tried blueberries, the last berry she had yet to try. Â She loves them. Â So, folks, if you are looking for the path to Abi’s heart, buy her some raspberries, strawberries, blueberries, or blackberries.
She is also wild about oranges, but these are harder for her to chew.

Today, Abi ate: oatmeal, lots of turkey, yogurt, cheese with bread, formula, more yogurt, even more yogurt, formula, part of an orange, part of a peach, about a third a jar of fruit baby food (single serving), more cheese, more bread, more cheese, more formula, blackberries, even more fruit baby food, even more formula . . . oh and she nursed at least 5 times for half an hour each . . . I have a strong sense that I am forgetting some of what she ate too. On the positive side, she did reject asparagus and hamburger (hey, she rejected something). Reading this list, I realize I should feed her more veggies (though she should be getting all her vitamins & minerals from formula & breastmilk at this point). Abi gets squash and peppers tomorrow!

We have slowly been expanding Abi’s palette by exposing her to different flavors. Â Sometimes she refuses to try anything new, but recently she has been more open to exploration. Â She tried (and loved) raspberries today, as well as Daddy’s chef salad (turkey, cheese, spinach, tomatoes, celery).

Abi was grateful for all the great clothes she received from Grandma. Â She carefully inspected each piece:
Made sure that it would be suitable for her peek-a-boo needs:
Checked the labels to make sure that the designer would not cramp her style:
Admired the Apple logo since, well, she loves Macs:
And was especially thrilled with the “Wild About Daddy” shirt since, well, she’s wild about Daddy.
Thanks Grandma!

Abi is getting very bossy. Â While most kids get attached to inanimate objects at this age, i.e., a lovey, Abi seems to be attached to Mommy’s boobies. Â She wants to be near them all the time, and protests loudly when she is not. Â She was tired today, and also had a bit of a tantrum – – her very first one.

Abi is getting really good at communicating. Â Today, she was in the office with Daddy. Â She could could not open the shut door to get out of the office. Â So, she indicated that Daddy should pick her up, and then kept motioning toward the door, communicating that she wanted to be taken out of the room. She laughed when Daddy motioned at the door too.

Whenever Abi is challenging, I have to remind myself that she is simply going through different phases (i.e., everything shall pass), and that growing and learning is hard work. Â She has gone from being an outgoing baby to a shy child, but her stranger anxiety is much less severe than that of other kids. Â Where she once tried any food, she now prefers just breastmilk.
However, she is clearly working very hard at learning and growing. Â Based on her older friend’s development pattern, I expect that she will be walking within 2 months or so. Â She is also also making cognitive leaps and bounds. Â She can now do the following upon request:
- Hug
- Clap hands
- Point to her head
- Wave
- Indicate whether she wants “more” or is “all done”
She is also starting to be more daring with new foods. Â Today, she tried a chip and humus. Â Yay!

Mattel is now selling a computer engineer Barbie, who thinks that math is fun & lucrative. Â (By comparison, a 1990’s or 1980’s Barbie doll was programmed to say “math class is hard”.) Â Finally, people will be able to convince me to let Abi play with Barbie. Â Go Mattel!

This Sunday, Abi threw up for the first time in her life. Â Mommy & Daddy were quite scared, and called her doctor. Â He thinks that she just ate too much. Â Abi has almost fully reverted to an all-breastmilk diet. Â She does not want to eat anything else other than cheese (when Mommy’s home). Â Mommy hopes that Abi will return to eating solid food soon.

Abi had a cold last week, including a fever for a few days (her first cold fever). Â She stopped standing by herself during that week. Â Now, she’s back to working on her walking skills.
Notice that she’s not holding onto anything, though she may be leaning against the couch.

Abi looks forward to doing this more often. Â It was fun.
