We are so happy to have Abi and her Mommy and Daddy vacationing with us on the Cape. Â The view from the house in Mashpee is very lovely.
The first morning Abi enjoyed playing on the floor. Â She was watching the puppies who came with Grandma and Grandpa.
\
Abi made some new friends on the Cape.
Abi is having such a good time – but Grandma and Grandpa are having an even better time!

Dear Grandmas,
Abi was recently called a “small terror baby”. Â Any doubts about the appropriateness of this label were erased today when she knocked over a full glass of water on Mommy’s lap. Â (She also tried to knock over Daddy’s glass, but Daddy was too smart for her.)
So – the obvious question, from which parent did she inherit her “small terror baby” ways? Â Was your baby terror-ific?

We had a childproofing audit today. Â The person said that there is a real difference in how toddlers act. Â She’s had one client who did not need to babyproof for her first two kids, for example. Â Others have very active toddlers. Â She thinks that parents can tell pretty early what kind of baby they have.
Well, based on today alone, I think I will have a little terror. Â Why? Â Well, here is what my 5 month 4 day old baby did today:
- Several times, crawl backwards about half a foot. Â (Have I mentioned that she is just 5 months old?) Â She is now crawling backwards in a straight line.
- While sitting on my lap, several times she pulled herself to standing by holding on to my shirt (I did not help her up at all.)
- I was holding her while drinking a glass of water. Â She almost knocked the glass out of my hand.
- I was holding her while giving someone my credit card (buying her a toy that was on sale). Â She did knock the credit card out of my hand.
- Daddy was laying on his back, and she was sitting on his stomach, holding each of his hands in each of her hands. Â She tried to stand up, and wound up rotating so that her legs were in the air. Â I am not quite sure I understand how this happened, but it sounds scary.
So, dear audience, my money is on “terror”.

Abi was sitting on my lap. Â She grabbed onto my shirt, and pulled herself up to standing several times very quickly. Â We have a little monkey.
Last night, she also let me know that she was happy to eat once she saw her feeding machine, by pumping her arms and legs, and looking very happy.

Last night, Abi fell asleep around 7 (maybe 7:30). Â Woke up at 9:30 when Daddy put her back to sleep. Â Next, she woke up at 3:30 to eat. Â It is now 7:24:54AM, and she is still asleep! Â I guess the 4 month sleep regression abruptly ends when the baby turns 5 months old – how convenient namewise. Â The next sleep regression occurs at 9 months – assuming the same pattern, I guess I will have to mark her 10 month birthday on my calendar on the day that that regression will end.

Abi slept for 9 hours last night (about 8PM-5AM). Â Mommy is not quite sure why.
Unfortunately, Mommy & Daddy fell asleep after midnight. Â They have to leave their bedroom door open to hear Abi in case she wakes up – and it was very hot even though they were blasting the air conditioner. Â This heat spell should be over tonight.

Abi went to the aquarium today – she had a good time. Â She went with Mommy, her friend Raya, and Raya’s Mommy. Â She saw lots of big fish and turtles.
In crawling news, she tried to get a toy, but instead crawled backwards at an angle today. Â In fact, she turned around 180 degrees by crawling backwards and at an angle.
Further, Mommy has decided that it is time to put the stroller attachment on Abi’s stroller, since she is really fighting with the car seat on the stroller, trying to sit up. Â Pictures to follow

And she is looking forward to seeing them (and so is Abi).

Poor Abi was fussy all day. Â Even her babysitter (hired so her Mommy can do paid work) left with a headache. Â I think she is teething.
In other news, I spoke to another Mommy whose baby got separation anxiety around age 5 months. Â The baby is about 4 months older than Abi, and the Mommy reports that it is starting to get better. Â Apparently, the Mommy’s pediatrician told her that it is easier on parents if the baby gets separation anxiety this early rather than later, with the implication that it will not last from age 9 Â months – 2 years as is usual. Â Mommy and this other Mommy are going to hang out tomorrow, and Abi’s Mommy will get more of the scoop.
Mommy has been up since 5AM, with three night feedings, so Mommy is going to bed now.

Sorry Grandma Linda, we went out and then she was asleep by the time we came home – so we couldn’t do video chat.

Abi & Mommy went shopping for a transitional object today. Abi looked at and even touched some of the choices. She picked the giraffe blankie, and has been happy with it since. (Grandma Linda likes giraffes too.) Mommy is planning to buy several more copies of the giraffe blankie.
