Abi had three poopies today – Daddy is so proud!
Dear Readers,
This blog was originally started as a way to record Abi’s early months, since eventually she will want to know about her babyhood. Â My technical support team tells me that he will be able to save this blog for her.
While I am sure that Abi will be happy to read Mommy’s accounts, she will also want to know what her wonderful relatives were like when she was a baby. Â So – I invite you to become a contributor to this blog. Â You can comment on Mommy’s posts, or better yet, even make your own from scratch. Â I know that she will be happy to read them when she is a little older.
Send Mommy an email if you want to write your own posts for Abi. Â Mommy will then send you a username, password and link to the page where you can post your thoughts, pictures, wishes for Abi, etc.
Together, we can make this blog a real treasure that Abi will enjoy reading.
Â
With best wishes,
Mommy
Abi has been enjoying the toys she got yesterday. She particularly likes the binky leash, which attaches her binky to her sleeve via a yarn with small wooden toys on it. Â She has succeeded in getting the toys into her mouth, but not yet the pacifier.
Today, Alan came for his playdate with Abi. Â Daddy played with Alan & Abi, while Mommy went kayaking with her buddy Lisa. Â (Mommy doesn’t quite understand why her legs are the only part of her body that is sore after 2 hours of solo kayak paddling – but that’s for another blog.) Â Daddy reports that Abi tried to take apart one of her new toys to see how it works. Â Do we have a budding scientist here? Â Subsequently, Alan left and Abi took a nap. Â She then went for her daily walk with Daddy, during which they talk about their respective days. Â Abi then fell asleep in her carseat.
She even holds up her own legs on the changing pad. Â
Abi had lots of playtime with Daddy today. Â She enjoyed.
Subsequently, Mommy & Daddy took Abi for a stroll around Horn Pond. Â They then went out for dinner. Â Abi had a great time looking around. Â People in the next booth were really enjoying Abi too. Â At one point, a couple came up to Mommy & Daddy to tell them how much they enjoyed looking at (and apparently interacting with) Abi from afar while they were eating dinner. Â They said that it is really rare to see such a precious baby. Â They said that they were going to now babysit their grandpuppy, but were hoping for grandkids someday.Â
Â
Mommy & Daddy then stopped into several stores to look for toys for Abi. Â They wanted ones that were small enough for Abi to hold comfortably, and that also made noise. Â Abi made quite a killing in the toy department today.
Abi had her first playdate with Raya, her friend from an Isis course. Â Raya is about 7 months old and lives in Woburn with her Mommy & Daddy. Â We joined them for Sabbath dinner, and playtime.
Since birth, Abi has grown about 5 inches, and gained about 6 pounds.
Last night was rough, so I am now going to go nap. Â Good night.
Abi is advanced for her age. Â Even her poops are advanced.
She just got: her dress, her legs, her feet, her jumper, the carpet under her jumper, the underside of the jumper . . .
Go Abi!
Daddy says:
Everything looks good. Â Just under 50th percentile on weight (13 lbs) and
just over on height.  Another set of vaccinations today, so she may be fussy for a day or two. All of her development milestones have been met or exceeded for 4 months
(already met some of her 6 month milestones, it seems).
Abi sleeps swaddled. Â Since Mommy & Daddy have absolutely no competence with 3D tasks, they bought her a swaddler with velcro. Â Each morning, she’s undoes the swaddler by pumping her legs, and then her arms. Â She looks like she is wearing a toga. Â Below is a picture that Daddy took one morning when he came to get her out of her crib.
Mommy & Daddy have recently bought her a larger size swaddler from which she has yet to escape.
Abi seems to be elongating daily. Â This morning, she could not stand flat on her feet in the jumper, but she was doing so this afternoon. Â As of yesterday, she has started playing with the attachments (toys) on the jumper.
We also show pictures of Abi in her bumbo chair.
Mommy had her physical today. Â Daddy & Abi waited for Mommy in the lobby of the hospital. Â Abi was letting out smelly, loud gas. Â It was so loud and smelly, that people did not think it could come from the baby. Â They gave Daddy dirty looks because they were sure that he was responsible for the foul smell, and made happy baby faces at Abi. Â People even moved away from Daddy. Â Poor Daddy.
Abi is now rotating herself in her jumper, and rotating her body within the jumper to look around. Â She is also now clearly playing with the toys hanging off the jumper.
Abi joined Mommy & Daddy for brunch at the Doubletree in Burlington. Â Abi first tried out a high chair, but it was too big for her – she kept slipping out. Â Next, Abi tried sitting in her bumbo chair, which was on top of a regular chair. Â It was just right, and Abi enjoyed looking around at her many friends. Â She particularly enjoyed hanging out with Alan, who is scheduled for a playdate with Abi for next Sunday.
Afterwards Abi ran some errands with Mommy & Daddy.
Abi is training to run (stroll) a 5K with Mommy & Grandpa Michael in November. Â She went running with Mommy today. Â Mommy did about 6 minutes and 22 seconds of running in addition to walking. Â
In the evening, Abi & Daddy went for a walk together. Â They had a great time.
Saturday was a fun day for Abi. Â We attended our first itsy bitsy yoga class. Â Abi seemed to enjoy it. Â Daddy & Mommy found the class rather interesting because there were two other babies who were approximately 7 months old sitting next to each other – it was fun to see them interact. Â It was almost like seeing two friendly puppies next to each other.
Abi is also really getting good at losing socks. Â She lost one sock on the way to yoga. Â We found it on the ground on the walk home. Â We then went for another walk, and realized that the same sock was again lost as we were walking home. Â
I am also realizing that this post is not necessarily aptly named. Â For a few days, I have had the sense that Abi is growing very quickly lengthwise. Â Much to my surprise, I have been proved correct. Â We put her in her jumper on Saturday – and at least one foot touches the ground. Â As of the last time we used it, we needed a very plump pillow on the floor, under her, Â so that her feet would not be hanging out. Â She has also been feeding quite frequently. Â It’s good to know that the milk is going to good use.
Abi had fun with Mommy’s & Daddy’s friends tonight. Â Several times people waved at her, and she seemed to wave back. Â She also really seems to like Alan. Â She put her hand into his outstretched hand. Â Also, when Mommy was holding her next to Alan, she leaned forward into his direction, making clear that she wanted to go to him.
Abi was cranky this morning, and only slept for about 15 minutes once Mommy put her down for her morning nap. Â Mommy then took her for a long walk (about 4 hours) which included lunch for Mommy. Â Abi was cranky at different points, and wanted to be held and eat often. Â She may have just been thirsty. Â Mommy fed her in Arlington Center (twice), at Isis Maternity and on the Minuteman, and was tempted to do so on the way home. Â Mommy & Abi spent some time on a park bench in Arlington Center watching all the action around them. Â Abi enjoyed this. Â At one point, while Mommy was holding Abi and trying to maneuver the stroller, Mommy turned her head away from Abi. Â When she turned back, some woman had her face in Abi’s face, cooing at her. Â Abi is a people magnet.
Abi cried on the way home but was happier when Mommy picked her up. They got home around 4. Â Abi ate twice, and is now finally napping. Â Mommy got to take a shower and finish an email that she has been working on for three days. Â Friends have now come to visit Mommy & Daddy, and they look forward to a relaxing night.
Abi & Mommy first spent some time with Fran today. Â She did not want to give Abi back to Mommy, but eventually got the willpower to do so.
Then, Mommy & Abi went to the Boston RMV. Â This was their first trip together on public transportation. Â Mommy was surprised with how easy it was, as all stations they went to had elevators. Â Unfortunately, the elevators in Boston did not smell especially hygenic, but Abi did not seem to notice. Â They waited at the RMV for about 2 hours, during which time Abi made friends with people around her. Â The woman sitting next to Mommy lost track of time and did not realize that her number had been called since she was talking to Abi. Â Behind us, two girls were having a lot of fun smiling at Abi, and one asked to hold Abi. Â When they first got to the RMV, Mommy noticed how easy it was to get people to give her more space on the bench. Â She just lay Abi out on her changing pad, got out a clean diaper – and voila – the person sitting on the bench got up and left.
The trip to Alewife was uneventful as Abi slept during the train ride. Â However, she had a bit of a meltdown on the walk home. Daddy came to pick her & Mommy up and drive them home. Â In hindsight, Mommy thinks that Abi was hungry (Abi ate at the RMV).
Daddy put Abi’s carseat into the car, and then put her into the carseat. Â He also put the pacifier into her mouth. Â When they arrive home, he noticed that the pacifier was in the door pocket rather than in her carseat. Â Based on this, he thinks that they have now entered the throwing phase.
Abi got her new swaddler from Amazon (the old one was getting too small), and she seems to have a harder time escaping from it, thus hopefully leading to a better night sleep.
Well, time for Mommy to crawl off to bed since Abi will be waking up soon.
